THE BEGINNING OF THE END

CATACLYSM 10
Warning: this is a dark page in history, pitch black. In April 2010, the Gulf of Mexico turned black. The Deepwater Horizon, an oil rig owned by BP, exploded and nearly 5 million barrels of oil spilled into the ocean. It became one of the biggest environmental disasters ever. A symbolic disaster, as we realise that more and more oil is killing us: CO2, plastic, pollution... I was stunned when I saw that apocalyptic scene on television. In response, I spent a month painting pictures about the extinction of all the seas, all of which became warnings for the future.
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill. And look where we are now. We still live in a crazy world. It's sad. Many oil companies still don't care about our well-being and send their lobby groups to influence politics everywhere. Profit is their only goal. With all the money they earn, they could make a better world.’ But there is more awareness about climate change now, isn't there? Will young people solve it? Thirty years ago, it was already a big problem, but nothing was done about it. I think it's too little, too late now. They can try, but this transition requires so much effort at an international level, it's so complicated. It's like trying to turn a boat the size of the Titanic 180° in a few seconds. Am I being pessimistic when I say it's impossible?‘
