BRAVE new old WORLDS the world now
THE GHOSTS OUT OF THE BOTTLE
My works on this state of being were collected images from the very recent past, newspapers and magazines from the 21st century. They are very topical and at the same time very old. In terms of their content, they belong to Goya, who goes back 200 years. A comparison is inevitable and frightening. What exactly has man learned from the past? How far has his evolution taken him? What measures his progress? Is he forced to change into a state of “humanity”, as Nietzsche calls it? Or does he invariably return to the animal state when the circumstances are ripe for it?
These images bear witness to this. We may wonder whether man can only truly achieve the state of being human through scientific and technological means. The technique of conveying the feeling of cruelty is a free, destructive form that I use in an organic way.
It explains both the time and the deformation of man. The deprivation, the horror and the hardships speak to us through the subject and the material. The viewer can feel this through the painful rough touches and strips.
