FILLED EMPTINESS unique worlds(01), maybe this gives some rest
THE REALITY AND THE ILLUSION
This is what is seen by most people.
Filled Emptiness, unique worlds are vast landscapes, where immense mysterious spaces, such as those found here in Belgium with its small-scale, densely built-up plots of land, no longer exist. Spaces as a metaphor for loneliness, an open mind that sees fullness: full voids. As your eye adjusts to the expanse of land or water, subtle nuances of shapes and colours begin to emerge. You gradually discern countless tones of light and colour, such as on the wide waters of Zeeland; contrasts of light and dark, backlighting such as on the Scheldt in Antwerp, where the other bank, the left bank, reveals a world of meanings in such an image at sunset. That lonely world with one or more figures becomes tangible, palpable, man a tiny particle, trapped within it.
A lot of flatness means a lot of sky. The constantly changing or threatening light of shifting clouds, playing, reflecting on water or earth; dark evening skies over the fields, reinforce the atmosphere of space, instability and strangeness! Sky, light and water are emotionally charged forms.
The images depicted in these paintings appeared constantly in newspapers and magazines and form the visual material of our time, the 21st-century revolts and mass migrations.
