About 473 million children currently live in conflict zones, which is more than one in six children worldwide. The effects of war are devastating for children, as shown by the stories of children from countries such as Burundi, Iraq and Eritrea, who are trying to overcome their war experiences. The war in Ukraine is also having devastating effects on children, many of whom are fleeing with their families. Organisations such as Plan International stress that children are always innocent in war situations and call for respect for international humanitarian law.
